5 Stars a move to Aube
I gave up on the Intermatic timers and after checking out timers on line, got two Aube T1034A-3W timers. They were simple to install and the programming wasn’t too difficult at all.

Unlike the Intermatic timers, the aube units are very flush and do not stick out from the faceplate.

The manual may be a bit confusing, but a quick reread results in it making sense. I’ll be watching to see how well the timers operate over the long haul. Someone noted that there is no battery backup — the memory, so they save, holds programming for 30 days.

My initial thought is that the move to Aube was definitely worth it!

5 Stars Great timer
This is a great timer. It was pretty easy to install, and it works great. Some folks might want a backlight, but I did not want to call attention to the switch as it runs our front porch light. We have not had a problem with a compact fluorescent bulb in the light.

4 Stars Easy to program but no battery back-up
This unit was much easier to program than the Intermatic timer switch. Unlike the Intermatic, you can simply enter your latitude and longitude which are provided in the instructions. The instructions were MUCH easier than the Intermatic timer. The buttons are easier to press and nicely spaced. It works well w. CFL bulbs w. no flicker when turned off. Corrects for daylight savings time. However, this unit has no battery back-up so if you lose power, you will probably have to reprogram. Can be programmed to turn on at dusk and off at dawn everyday. It can also be programmed to turn on at different times on a day to day basis. It corrects for daylight savings time as well. Wiring was a breeze. Excellent product. Would have given it 5 stars if it had a battery back-up.

5 Stars Working perfectly
Easy install. FOrtunately I had 3 wires and not two. If you do have two wires to this timer it will not work or require some fancy wiring.

Using GPS coordinates to set your location is a bit odd, but works perfectly.

Much preferred over the Intermatic I bought at the Orange big box store. I went through 2 of those timers in 2 years. Their issue is they still use a mechanical switch to flip the switch inside the box. THIS AUBE timer is completely electronic. Look to have it working until I sell the house.

I also use a 40W CFL light.

5 Stars Almost perfect
As far as I know, there is nothing even close to this on the market.

I have had a few of these for many years. None have ever failed. Setup is straightforward and programming is reasonable.

Having the lights automatically adjust for sunrise/sunset is great. If we leave the house at 4pm and come back at 9pm, the front lights are on.

There is a little bug in the programming. It screws up if it is programmed to turn on before midnight and turn off after midnight. I forget now how it screws up, because I changed mine to turn off just before midnight.

I would like more flexible programming, but that usually comes with complexity. There isn’t much space there for a display.

1. Be able to set an offset (sunset +/- nn minutes).

2. A random feature where it would vary the actual on/off times by +/- nn minutes.

3. Automatic adjustment for daylight savings. This may be a problem, becasue the politicians keep dork around with the the cutover day, so maybe it’s better as it is. This also allows me to sych the clock twice a year. Maybe an upgraded model could include a received for the time sigbal from Colorado? :-)

The timer does not keep perfect time, which is surprising. I would think it could used the 60 Hz from the grid to stay perfectly in time.

This is one of my favorite gadgets. I am not sure why it is so hard to find.

Solar Powered Floodlight White

Adding safety measures to your home doesn’t have to involve expensive installations and a hefty increase in your electric bill. Keep your home safe using the sun’s free solar energy by setting up the Solar-Powered Floodlight. This motion-sensing light is triggered when you enter its 23-foot range, so it can light your way without staying on all night. The Solar-Powered Floodlight is powered by the pre-installed rechargeable battery, so you won’t need to replace batteries constantly, and it will even work during power outages. There’s no electricity needed to power the Solar-Powered Floodlight. With no wires to run, you can install this solar light in minutes. A 14-foot cable between the solar panel and the light lets you place the security light where you need it while allowing the solar panel to be installed facing the sun. This solar light will even work in cloudy weather, up to two weeks without any sunlight! A built-in photocell lets the Solar-Powered Floodlight know when it’s dark, so it won’t waste battery and bulb life by burning during daylight hours. You can adjust the light sensitivity if you desire. Additional features include adjustable motion sensitivity and adjustable length of light time.

1 Star Solar Light
The solar light failed to light after 2 weeks of use. I have left a message for the vendor regarding the defect but have not received a response.

5 Stars Perfect for us
I purchased the Solar Powered Floodlight by Smarthome at the end of June and we love it. I bought a different one at a local, big blue hardware store, and it doesn’t work as well as this one. We needed light in our backyard for safety and our dogs as we live on a nice piece of land with a path behind us. It is hard to see the dogs at nighttime when they go out to do their business. The other floodlight that we bought about 1 month before this one, doesn’t pick up our dogs when they are in the yard. The only one also only stays on for a few seconds. The Smarthome picks up on our dogs when they are in the yard and it picks up people who walk behind our fence at night and with the time adjustment, it works so much better. I would recommend this product to anyone and, I actually have. My husband and I may purchase a few more to light up the rest of our property for safety and the dogs.

5 Stars Problem solver
This gadget is a real help. When I took the dog out after dark I was negotiating a flight of stairs with one hand on the leash and the other on a flashlight. Since I’m in my 70s this was not wise. Now the photo-sensor picks up our motion, completely lights the steps, and I can hold onto the railing with the free hand. The solar cell charged up in 3 days as promised even though we had cloudy weather. I am waiting to see if I’ll have enough solar power for the extra light needed when the days get shorter and the nights get longer.
